Contemporary Issues in MIS could include: Concert, Tour, Venue Management; Advertising/PR (Communications); Radio Promotion and Management; Artists Management; Music Journalism.
Electives could include the Contemporary Issues course, a law school course, an advanced business school course, or a course in Visual Arts or Communications.
Note: Students in all tracks of the Music Industry Studies program must demonstrate a basic content knowledge and functional proficiency at the end of the sophomore year. Those who lack proficiency will be advised to do remedial work or pursue other academic alternatives prior to registering for 300 and 400 MUIN courses.
Compentency at this "junior level" will be demonstrated by successfully completing all of the following:
- C or better in all MUIN courses; must pass 3 out of 4 semesters of Forum
- a comprehensive oral examination on content of the required courses (including Music Industry Forum) in the particular track as well as on opportunities and challenges in the evolving industry, together with reasonable and positive solutions; and
- a well-written paper of 500 - 600 words and emphasizes the importance of ethics in the contemporary music industry.
