Curriculum

Admission Requirements

Your completed application package should include all of the following items:

  • A completed Application for MCJ Admission;
  • A bachelor’s degree and a record of academic achievement from an accredited college or university;
  • $20 application fee;
  • An official transcript from each institution attended sent directly to the appropriate admissions office. For transcripts other than English, please provide a certified English translation with an explanation of the grading system;
  • Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT); International students must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), scoring 550 or higher, unless their previous degree is from a college or university in which the language of instruction is English.Consult http://www.gre.org for general information about the Graduate Record Examination (GRE);
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons knowledgeable about the applicant’s aptitude for graduate work, such as former professors or master’s prepared supervisors;
  • A resume of professional work experience including
  • A statement of educational goals that addresses the following points:
    1. How do you think the MCJ degree will enhance your professional development?, and;
    2. What expectations do you hope to realize by earning the degree?
  • A formal interview with one or more graduate faculty members at Loyola

Materials submitted in support of an application are not released for other purposes and cannot be returned to the applicant.

Comprehensive Examination

All graduate students in the MCJ are required to complete 30 graduate semester hours and maintain an overall 3.0 average.   A comprehensive examination consisting of essay question based on the core curriculm must be taken and passed by students before they can register for the capstone Master's Research and Practicum course.  A student may retake the comprehensive examination once.  A Master's Research project prospectus is presented to the Coordinator of Graduate Studies at the time the comprehensive examination is taken.  The prospectus must be approved before the students enters the practicum course.

Degree Candidacy

MCJ students must apply for candidacy after completion of twelve (12) credit hourswith an overall 3.0 average in the program.

Application/Admission Deadlines

Admission to Loyola’s MCJ program is competitive and occurs anytime during the calendar year. Present admission is for the Fall 2001 cohort class.
